The importance of learning English cannot be overstated in an increasingly interconnected and globalized world. For the millions of people who travel the world from non-English-speaking countries, learning to communicate in English is important to enter and ultimately succeed in mainstream English speaking countries. Working knowledge of the English language can create many opportunities in international markets and regions. It is the most spoken official language in the world and the primary language used in international affairs. The English language has official status even in nations where it is not the primary spoken language.
English is indisputably the primary language of global trade and commerce.
‘The first impression is the best impression’ is an often heard statement. The elements that work to create the best impression the first time are clear communication and confidence. For the fresh entrant aspiring to join the new generation workforce, these two elements have become critical in creating that first impression.
A good understanding of the English language enables clear communication. Understanding the finer nuances of situations enables students to present themselves with confidence.
NIIT’s program titled ‘English for Success’ aims to fill the gaps in the communication abilities of learners. The program helps participants enhance their fluency in English and confidently face education and career situations.
It achieves its objectives through training in grammar, listening, pronunciation and vocabulary.
Some important highlights of this English for Success program are:
MR-Home-CR-based Delivery Methodology: The delivery methodology of the program follows a MR-Home-CR cycle. It enables learners to use computer-based training to understand and assimilate the concepts, before honing them through practice.
Interactive computer-based learning for core concepts: The interactive tool follows an expert-based approach, where learners can practice concepts and compare what they know against expected achievements based on the inputs of experts.
Concept of ‘Themes’: The concept of themes deals with the functional aspect of the language, such as methods to describe childhood experiences and abilities, comparing things, discussing the progress of events and talking about sudden or memorable events. This enables learners to place themselves in given personal/professional situations and practice what they have learnt in these situations.
Focus on Practice-based learning in the Machine room, at Home and in the class room: Repeated practice sessions while they learn on the computer and exercises based on real-life situations in the classrooms, provide participants with the required confidence to face personal/professional contingencies.
Emphasis on vocabulary used in technical conversations: Every fifth lesson includes vocabulary sessions which are used in technical education/scenarios. This aids students in enhancing their learning of the English language.
Introduction to pronunciation rules and concepts: A total of nine hours are spent on introducing the rules of pronunciation to learners. This is done through self-study machine room content. Therefore, while this program is not geared up to provide language skills for call center employment such as Accent Neutralization, it aids in enhancing the listening and speaking capabilities of the students.
